PoS - Proceedings of Science
the new conference proceedings publishing service
PoS provides a versatile tool tailored to your conference publishing requirements. Publishing your proceedings on PoS is inexpensive and access by the readership is open without registration or charge. Moreover, the on-line publication procedure is fast thanks to the software system that runs the entire editorial procedure. Conference organisers are thus provided with a very convenient, web-based tool for running the publication of the proceedings (or lecture notes). Authors are provided with personal pages with all the tools for producing and uploading their contributions.
The aim of PoS is to offer a versatile, fast, inexpensive and open tool devised and run by the scientific community for the scientific community. The service will hence be open to all readers free of charge and the fees for publication will be kept low on a not-for-profit basis.
Given the Open Access nature of this proceedings collection, PoS has chosen to apply the Creative Commons License (Attribution-NonCommercial-ShareAlike). Every author submitting his/her contribution to PoS retains the copyright, and upon submission (s)he applies this license to his/her work. See a detailed description
PoS implements OAI-PMH. This is a protocol for metadata harvesting and
dissemination. The PoS OAI-PMH base url is http://pos.sissa.it/oai
. This url will respond to queries in the protocol language. Also, the
page http://pos.sissa.it/contribution is provided for access to a
record metadata and fulltext based on the <dc:identifier> field in the
(eg. http://pos.sissa.it/contribution?id=PoS(MOC)001 ).
PoS is organized by SISSA, the International School for Advanced Studies based in Trieste, making the most of its longstanding experience in the field of on-line publishing, creating and running electronic journals like JHEP, JCAP, JSTAT, JINST and JCOM.
PoS is an evolution of the former JHEP proceedings section (PrHEP). Whilst these were devoted to High Energy Physics alone, PoS encompasses all fundamental and applied sciences, of which Physical Sciences, Mathematical Sciences, Biosciences, Computer Science, Medical Physics, Instrumentations are just a few examples.
Publication on PoS requires the approval of the Executive Editorial Committee. Approval by the Executive Editorial Committee means that the conference, as a whole, is deemed to be of good quality and therefore of interest for the scientific community. PoS, on the other hand, does not provide any refereeing for the submitted contributions. Peer-reviewing of the proceedings and lecture notes, if any, is entirely to be carried out by the conference chairman as (s)he best sees fit. When this occurs the conference chairman can inform the readership by mentioning the fact in the conference abstract (preface).
