Abstract
It is suggested that the extremely fast TeV gamma-ray flare from the radio galaxy IC 310 might originate in the magnetosphere of a supermassive black hole. If such flares are produced also in the surrounding of SMHBs in blazars then VHE gamma-rays have to propagate in the radiation field of the jet before reaching an observer. We investigate the scenario in which VHE gamma rays initiate electromagnetic cascades in the synchrotron radiation field produced in the whole volume of the jet.
