Abstract
We briefly discuss the role of the subprocesses initiated by
bottom quarks in the study of the Drell-Yan observables
and the treatment of the bottom quark mass effects;
we eventually estimate the impact of these approximations
in the high-precision determination of the $W$ boson mass.
