Abstract
The completion of the Standard Model of particle physics by the discovery of a light Higgs boson at the LHC in 2012 triggered the debate about the best way forward to discover physics beyond the Standard Model. At the eve of the update of the European Strategy of particle physics, this article summarises the motivation and status of the different collider projects in particle physics at the energy frontier. This article reflects the status as of August 2018 and the reader is invited to follow closely updated information of the presented projects.
