The Detector R\&D parallel session at ICHEP 2018 was especially rich. It included over 90 contributions outlining the amazing performance of current detectors and the outstanding progress made by our community towards future experiments at new facilities that are in various stages of planning. In this paper a selected summary of this rich program is presented, focusing on the R\&D for the future of our field.
