Abstract
Heavy flavour quarks, like charm and beauty, are sensitive probes to investigate the colour-deconfined medium created in high-energy heavy-ion collisions, the quark-gluon plasma (QGP). The ALICE Collaboration measured the production of strange and non-strange D mesons in Pb--Pb collisions at $\sqrt{s_{\rm{NN}}}=~$5.02 TeV. The measurement of elliptic ($v_{\rm{2}}$) and triangular ($v_{\rm{3}}$) flow of D mesons gives insight into the participation of the charm quark in the collective motion of the medium at low transverse momentum ($p_{\rm{T}}$), while it constrains the path-length dependence of in-medium energy loss. Furthermore, the coupling of the charm quark to the light quarks in the underlying medium is investigated with the event-shape engineering (ESE) technique to the non-strange D-meson elliptic flow.
Finally, the effect of the magnetic field created in the early stage of the collisions is studied via the first measurement at LHC energies of the charge-dependent directed flow of $\rm{D}^{0}$ as a function of pseudorapidity.
