Abstract
A survey is given on recent developments in using heavy-flavor observables to probe the quark-gluon plasma and its hadronization in ultrarelativistic heavy-ion collisions. Emphasis is placed on trying to gain insights into the medium modifications of the fundamental QCD force. Where appropriate, the role of open and hidden bottom particles is highlighted.
