Abstract
The Cherenkov Telescope Array Observatory (CTAO) will explore gamma rays from 20 GeV to over 100 TeV. This study investigates CTAO’s ability to measure the gamma-ray luminosity function (GLF) of very-high-energy (VHE) blazars through its extragalactic survey, which will cover 25% of the sky. Simulated blazar populations are created by sampling from known BL Lac GLF, assigning power-law spectra, and accounting for extragalactic background light absorption. Using Markov Chain Monte Carlo methods and CTAO’s alpha configuration (LSTs, MSTs, SSTs across both sites), we assess the observatory’s capacity to reconstruct the GLF and improve our understanding of VHE blazars.
