Experiments that use self-triggered radio detection need accurate knowledge of their local radio background. This project aims to develop a general measurement setup to examine this background and provide information for site evaluation. The setup has to be sensitive over a wide range of frequencies, it has to be accurate and it needs to be built in a way to minimize its own radio emissions.
The current setup consists of an antenna which is connected to an oscilloscope for data acquisition. The oscilloscope is connected to a controlling laptop where the data is saved and a first analysis is performed. A shielded box ensures minimal radio emission and basic protection against the elements. A battery pack in the box provides autonomous power supply.
The setup can measure traces and trigger rates with custom parameters and run automated measurement campaigns. The saved data can then be visualized and a basic analysis is provided.
