Abstract
LHCb is playing a crucial role in the study of rare and forbidden decays of charm hadrons, which might reveal effects beyond the Standard Model. Results on the $D^0 \to h^+ h^- \mu^+ \mu^-$ and $D^0 \to e^{\pm} \mu^{\mp}$ decays are presented together with some prospects on the LHC future runs
