Abstract
This is a review of the LIGO first gravitational wave detections announced during 2016 and the signification they have as the birth of gravitational wave astronomy. We briefly describe the re- sults, some of it possible astrophysical implications, and also report about electromagnetic follow- up efforts during the first detection.
