Abstract
The 3$\nu$ paradigm can be tested with precision measurements of the unitarity of the Pontecorvo–Maki–Nakagawa–Sakata (PMNS) neutrino mixing matrix. However, such tests are hampered by the low precision of $\nu_{\tau}$ oscillation measurements, and new measurements are required. A recent world-leading measurement of $\nu_{\tau}$ appearance by the DeepCore sub-array of the IceCube neutrino observatory is presented, as well as the future prospects from the upcoming IceCube Upgrade.
