Abstract
The top quark is the heaviest known particle in the Standard Model, and the only fermion exhibiting a Yukawa coupling of order unity. Various theories beyond the Standard Model predict new particles and signatures tightly connected to the top quark and its possibly special nature in the SM flavour and hierarchy problem. These proceedings will present recent results from the ATLAS experiment in searches for new particles decaying to final states containing top or charm quarks.
